Only a couple weeks left of Summer 2015, and that means only a few more chances to join us at the Muskoka Lakes Public Library for some awesome programs! Today at 3:00pm there will be a traditional "Punch 'n Judy Show" at the Bala branch. If Port Carling's location is easier for you to access, come on out tomorrow (Thurs. Aug. 20th) around 2:00pm and see it here on our lawn. We recommend you bring something to sit on, whether it be a folding chair or a blanket to spread on the grass. If you prefer something indoors and more relaxed, join our very own Nancy Gray Ogle for an evening of creative painting at "The Canvas Café." A monthly event, August's evening class is on the 20th, from 7:00 to 9:00pm. No previous experience is necessary, and preregistration is required. If you know a young adult who likes to read and talk books, tell them about the library's Young Adult Book Club, held on Mondays from 12:30 to 1:30pm. We get together to chat about all things bookish, and lately we have been playing Book-Lover's Scrabble, a great game for teaching new words and broadening our reading horizons. Two more sessions of this group meet before it's back to school! Another program we have been doing weekly is the ever-popular "Muskoka Reads!" Held on Tuesday mornings from 10:45 to 11:30am, the last one of the summer features Richard McCarthy and his daughter Kathy, who will entertain your little ones with singing and some neat information on the sport of rowing. The final event of the summer is "Paint with Nancy Hunter," held on Fri. Aug. 28th from 10:00 to noon. Fun and easy learning is the theme! During this session, beginner and intermediate painters will focus on the fundamentals of colour theory, light and shadow, composition, visual perspective, brush work, paint handling, and application. Preregistration is required. If you haven't had a chance to participate in any of these great programs throughout the summer, be sure to do so before you have to head back to a school frame of mind. It's an awesome opportunity to let out some end-of-summer blues, and lets you wind down before the new round of homework starts.
