Meet the New Library Board

Muskoka Lakes Public Library is very pleased to welcome the recently appointed Township of Muskoka Lakes Public Library Board Members. Appointed by Municipal Council, as mandated by the Public Libraries Act, these volunteers will serve a four year term of office that runs concurrent with the term of the appointing council.

The eight new Board members will work with the CEO, Sheila Durand and Municipal Council to continue to develop and enhance the current library services for all the residents of Muskoka Lakes. We are pleased to introduce the new members.

Lexan Wheaton recently retired from the medical field and now lives in Bala where she is an active volunteer with the Bala Cranberry Festival and several other organizations.

Patricia Gidley is a retired teacher who left the profession to join her husband in the insurance and real estate business in Bala.

Kristan Farlie is editor of the Muskoka Sun and she and her husband own the Bala Garden Centre. Kristan has a young son and has been a volunteer with the Bala Cranberry Festival for the last five years.

Lindsay Hill is a self-employed bookkeeper and lives in Port Carling. She brings her teaching and museum experiences and knowledge to the Board.

Steve Hayhurst is a self-employed management recruiter and consultant and recently relocated to Torrance from London.
Linda McAuley has been on the Library Board since 2007. Linda, with her husband, is the owner of the Manse B&B in Port Carling.

Gault McTaggart, a long time resident of Windemere, is a newly elected member of Municipal Council and was appointed to the Library Board as the Council Representative.

Sandy Tozer Spence (missing from picture) is a seasonal resident of Port Carling. Sandy has her Bachelor of Education and is actively involved in the Muskoka Lakes Association.

The Muskoka Lakes Public Library Board meet on the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 3:00 pm at the Norma and Miller Alloway Muskoka Lakes Township Library in Port Carling. The next meeting will take place on February 8, 2011 and the public is welcome and is encouraged to attend the meetings.

Thanks to everyone who submitted a Milford Bay Branch Hours of Service Survey that helped us choose the new hours that started January 24: Mondays and Wednesdays 5pm to 7pm.

Art Classes for Adults A series of six art classes at the Port Carling branch that can be taken individually with Nancy Gray Ogle on Thursdays beginning January 27. Contact Nancy at 764-0212

Winterfest Watch for the Muskoka Lakes Public Library’s Creative Kids craft workshop booth on Saturday, February 6 at the annual winter celebration in Port Carling.
